Mathis Killed When Truck Turns Over J. W. Mathis, prominent farmer, who lives near St. Maurice, received injuries from which he died when a truck in which he was riding overturned on the Jefferson Highway about five miles from Montgomery, Saturday afternoon. From information received here Mr. Mathis and a boy by the name of Sidney Britt who was driving the truck, were returning home hauling a cow on the truck, when a noise from behind caused them to look back, causing the boy to lose control of the truck which ran off an embankment and turned over. Mr. Mathis was caught under the truck and received injuries from which he died about two hours after the accident. Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife and two sons and two daughters, Eben Mathis of Montgomery; Frank Mathis of St. Maurice; Mrs. Elliott of Mooringsport; Miss Ione Mathis of St. Maurice, also four brothers and one sister: T. W. Mathis of St. Maurice, Dave Mathis of Montgomery, J. S. Mathis of Haynesville, Chas. Mathis of Mooringsport, and Mrs. Sam Hailey of Harrisonburg. He was buried at Saline Church Sunday, the Masonic Order of which he was a member having charge of the funeral services.
