Murphy, Dodson Resident Dies Jan. 17 Last rites were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dodson Baptist Church for William Asa Murphy, 87, of Dodson, who died Friday night in his sleep with a heart attack. Mr. Murphy was in the habit of getting up about four in the morning and something after seven, his wife noticed that he was still in bed and made an effort to awaken him. When she could not, she called a son, Ennis, who lived near, and they found that he had passed away. The deceased was born Jan. 1, 1866, in Jackson Parish and later moved to Winn Parish where he spent most of his life. He was united in marriage to Miss Nettie Terrell, daughter of John and Geneva Terrell, on July 7, 1889. Six children were born to this union. Services were conducted by the Rev. Ray Prager, pastor of Dodson Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Mr. Arthur of Gansville Baptist Church, with interment in the Transport Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clayton Norred, Newton Norred, J. L. Mathews, Carthal Payne, Judson Campbell, and Roy Walker. Survivors are the widow, one daughter, Mrs. Lee Ola Smith of Longview, Wash.; five sons, J. Horace Murphy, John J. Murphy, Beaumont, Texas; Hardy B. Murphy, Monroe; F. Ansom Murphy, Jonesboro; and Ennis Murphy, Dodson; 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
