All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: April 20, 1939 Winn Parish Enterprise John Mixon of Dodson Succumbs Last Rites Were Held At Gansville Church Friday Funeral services for John Mixon, prominent resident of the Gansville community, were conducted Friday afternoon at the Gansville Church, with Rev. J. W. Buckner of Jonesboro and Rev. W. T. Strain, of Simsboro, officiating together with the Masonic Lodge. Interment was made in the Gansville Cemetery. Mr. Mixon was born March 11, 1883, near Gansville, where he lived and worked during the course of his lifetime. In 1906 he was married to Miss Ella Puckett and to them was born one daughter, Mrs. Maurice Gates, teacher in the Cypress Creek School; however he opened his home to five orphaned children and helped to bring them up as his own. He was a member of the Gansville Church and the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Mixon had been in ill health for a number of years, although his death came suddenly Thursday, April 13, 1939. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ella Puckett Mixon, one daughter, Mrs. Maurice Gates; two granddaughters, Ella Sue and Ada Lynn Gates; three brothers, A. L. Mixon of Dodson, O. J. Mixon of Winnfield, and C. R. Mixon of Pineville, besides a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased. Among them were Claude Mixon, David Mixon, Elton Mixon, of Winnfield; Joe Mixon of Homer, Dan Mixon of Dodson, Virgil Taylor and Arthur Taylor of Gansville.
