Maxey Of Calvin Succumbs Here Sept. 28th Had Been In Ill Health Since July; Buried At Bethlehem J. F. Maxey, 64, died at the home of his son, Jewel L. Maxey, Winnfield, Thursday, September 28, 1939, at 5:10 p.m. and burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery Friday afternoon under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at the Calvin Baptist Church with the Rev. F. M. Shows, pastor, and the Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor Winnfield Baptist Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Elmore Anderson, K. C. Simmons, Zack Hodge, H. R. Lowe, C. M. Carter, and I. N. Carpenter. Born in Catahoula Parish, February 18, 1875, Mr. Maxey moved to the Calvin community in about the year 1901. He was married to Miss Lorena Carter of Calvin and they had two daughters and three sons, all of whom survive him. Mr. Maxey was a farmer and a member of the Calvin Baptist Church. He had been ill since last July during which time he had been a patient in the Baptist hospital on two different occasions and at the time of his death was staying at the home of his son here under the care of Winnfield physicians. Surviving are hid widow, two daughters, Mrs. Jesse Shelton, Calvin, and Mrs. T. E. Mayo, West Monroe; three sons, J. L. Maxey, Winnfield, J. W. Maxey, Dodson, and J. B. Maxey, Logansport; four brothers, Arthur Maxey, Winnfield; A. C., Jr., and J. H. Maxey, Jordan Hill, and Eugene Maxey, Georgetown; and two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Jordan, Jordan Hill, and Mrs. Retta Tilman, Liberty, Texas. He also leaves five grandchildren.
