George W. Nelson, a native of Winnfield and a graduate of Pinecrest High School, is the fourth victim of the Vietnam War from Winn Parish. He was killed in action December 9, 1967. Last rites were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, in Morning Star Baptist Church, L. & A. Quarters, with the pastor, Dr. H. Y. Bell, officiating. Burial was in the National Cemetery, Pineville, La. Born in Winnfield January 4, 1943, the war victim would have been 25 years old next month. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Baby Ruth Nelson; one son, Sargent Ramone; one daughter, Sonja Renaee; mother, Gussie Nelson; grandmother, Alberta Booker, all of Winnfield; four sisters, Alberta Woodard, Beatrice Jones, Marie Brown, Seattle, Wash., and Gussielynn Nelson, Alexandria, La.; one brother, Bartis Abraham, Lake Charles.
