Funeral Services For Dr. L. B. Newsom This P. M. At Sikes

Funeral services for Dr. Louis B. Newson, age 85, will be held this afternoon
at the Sikes Baptist Church at three o'clock.  Dr. Newsom died Thursday
morning at two o'clock in a Shreveport hospital following an illness of
several years.  The last rites will be conducted by the Rev. H. H. McBride,
pastor of the First Baptist Church, Winnfield.

Dr. Newsom was born in Winn Parish, attended the public schools and after
reaching manhood, attended the Memphis Medical School at Memphis, Tenn.  He
practiced in the Sikes community and later moved to Monroe.  For the past
several years his failing health has made him inactive in his profession. He
was a member of the Baptist Church and the Masonic fraternity.

He is survived by one brother, H. L. Newsom, Crowville; three sisters, Mrs.
Anna Sowers, Mrs. Nora Williams, Rosefield, Mrs. Sibbie Gerald, Columbia, and
a number of nieces and nephews among them J. N. Sowers of Winnfield.

The body was brought here Thursday from Shreveport to the Hixson Brothers
Funeral Home to await burial today.
