Mrs. C. Newsom Succumbs; Rites Held Tuesday

Mrs. Kate Carter Newsom, 84, of Shady Grove Community near Sikes, died at
Hardtner Medical Center in Urania Sunday after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Newsom was a native of Winn Parish having resided in the Shady Grove
Community for more than 50 years.  She was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist
Church.

Funeral services were held at Sikes Baptist Church Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the
Revs. Jack Baucum and Preston Tibbett officiating.  Burial was in Sikes
Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Chris M. Newsom of Sikes; one daughter, Mrs.
Annie Bell Parker of Urania; two sons, Loyd Newsom of Urania and C. M. Newsom
of Sikes; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Sutton of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mrs.
Allie Patton of Clovis, N. Mex.; one brother, J. O. Carter of Lawton, Okla.; 
six grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
