Funeral of Dr. L. B. Newsom At Sikes Friday

Aged Physician Succumbs In Shreveport After Long Illness

Funeral services for Dr. Lewis B. Newsom, 85, who succumbed in Shreveport,
Thursday morning, will be held at the Sikes Baptist Church Friday afternoon at
3 o'clock with Rev. H. H. McBride of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield,
officiating.  Interment will be in the Sikes Cemetery under direction of
Hixson Funeral Home.

The remains will lay in state at Hixson Funeral Home, Winnfield, until 2 p.m.
Friday.

Born and reared in Winn Parish, Dr. Newsom attended the Medical School in
Memphis, Tenn., and later practiced in Winn Parish and in Monroe, until he
retired a few years ago.  For the past two years he has made his home in
Winnfield, only recently going to Shreveport to receive medical attention.

Dr. Newsom was a Mason and a member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving are one brother, H. L. Newsom, Crowville, La.; and three sisters,
Mrs. Anna Sowers, Winnfield; Mrs. Nora Williams, Rosefield, La.; and Mrs.
Sibbie Gerald, Columbia, La.
