All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: November 30, 1944 Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites Held For Miss Ollie Newsom Nov. 24 Miss Ollie Newsom, 90 years of age, member of a prominent Winn Parish family, died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Cora Abrams, in Winnfield Thursday, Nov. 23, 1944. Funeral services were conducted the following day at the Sikes Baptist Church with interment in the Sikes Cemetery. Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor of the Winnfield Baptist Church, officiated. Servining as pallbearers were Howard Sowers, Leo Sowers, Harold Brown, E. M. Stringer, C. M. Newsom, and Chris Newsom. Miss Newsom had been making her home with her niece in Winnfield since July, 1944, coming here from Monroe where she had resided six years. She was born at Flat Creek, Winn Parish, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Newsom, and lived the greater part of her life near Sikes. She was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are two brothers, Dr. L. B. Newsom, formerly of Monroe, now of Winnfield; and Dock Newsom of Crowville; three sisters, Mrs. Sibby Jarrell, Columbia, La., Mrs. Nora Williams, Enterprise, La., and Mrs. Anna Sowers, Winnfield.
