Newsom Buried at Sikes Thursday, Dec. 10 Mrs. Newsom Died In Monroe Where She Had Been Receiving Treatment Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Newsom, 75 years old, who died in Monroe at the home of her son, S. R. Newsom, early Wednesday, were held at the Sikes Baptist Church, Thursday morning, December 10, at 11 o'clock. The Rev. L. D. Emmons, lifelong friend of the family had charge of the last rites and was assisted by the Rev. L. T. Hastings, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Monroe. Mrs. Newsom was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Newsom was born in Mississippi, the daughter of James Danvill Wallace and Nancy Union Sills. She came to Winn Parish in early girlhood and was married to S. R. Newsom of Hickory Valley, where she resided the greater part of her life. Her husband preceded her in death three years ago. Both the late Mr. Newsom and Mrs. Newsom served as postmaster and postmistress of the Hickory Valley post office. Mrs. Newsom had been in failing health for the past three or four years. Surviving the deceased is one sister, Mrs. Cleo Wade of Jena; six sons, Walter of Decatur, Miss., Hugh, Sam, and Roy, of Monroe, and Troy of Bossier City and C. M. Newsom of Sikes; and one daughter, Mrs. H. V. Mayes of Sikes. Among those from Winnfield attending the last rites in Sikes today were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Baker, Jack Wallace, Mrs. E. E. Kidd, Casimir Moss, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sowers, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Peters, and Mrs. Alice J. McCloy. Others were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wade and family of Jena.
