Mrs. Zoe Newsom, 76, of 300 Rochelle, Monroe, died suddenly Thursday, August 27, at her home. Mrs. Newsom was the daughter of the late Judge Marion F. Machen and Anna R. McClean Machen. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday from Winnfield First Methodist Church with the Rev. George Ross officiating. Burial was in Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe. Mrs. Newsom was a native of Montgomery, having moved to Winnfield later with her parents, where they resided for many years. She and her late husband owned Dixie Roofing Company in Monroe for some time. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. J. H. Hart and Mrs. Ruth Crump, both of Monroe; one brother, Thomas B. Machen of Dallas, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Jesse Corley, Clyde DeLoach, Burton Williams, Matt Milam, Jr., Ebb Machen, and L. C. Carter. Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mrs. Ruth M. Crump, Mrs. Eva M. Hart, Mrs. E. N. Jackson, Mrs. Gentry Jones, Mrs. Wayne Huckaby, Monroe; Mrs. Prince Gilcrease, Gilbert; Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Parrish, Baton Rouge; Mrs. Chris Newsom and son, Sikes; Mr. and Mrs. John W. Crump, Mrs. O. N. Reynolds, Miss Jorenda Reynolds, Mr. Neal Reynolds, Columbia; and Mrs. W. N. Reynolds, West Monroe.
