Nichols, Sportsmen's Club President, Dies S. B. Nichols, president of the Winn Parish Sportsmen's Club and president and secretary of the Winn Parish Fox and Coon Hunters Association, died in a local hospital May 18. Mr. Nichols had been a resident of Winnfield four years, representing the Southern Pine Association as an inspector. He was born January 28, 1897 in Warren, Texas. Funeral services were conducted at Hixson Brothers chapel at 2 p.m., May 19, with Rev. H. J. Mott officiating. The remains were carried to Kingfisher, Okla., where final rites were conducted May 20. Prior to coming to Winnfield, Mr. Nichols had been prominent in civic affairs in Roganville, Texas, where he served as a member of the school board five years. He was a member of the Masonic Order. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Nichols, Winnfield; one son, J. C. of New Orleans; two daughters, Mrs. G. B. Fisher of Guam, and Miss Geraldine Nichols of Charlotte, N. C.; three brothers and three sisters. One son, Elton, was killed in World War Two. Blackie Hambleton, representing the Winn Parish Sportsmen's Club and the Winn Fox and Coon Hunters Association, wrote the following of Mr. Nichols: "Mr. Nichols was regarded by all who knew him as a most esteemed citizen, with a broad sense of humor, tolerant of other people's faults, and a champion of those who were underprivileged, having a strong sense of justice. In business he was reputed to be one of the best in his line. It is with deep and sincere regret that we note his passing and extend our most heartfelt sympathy to his bereaved family. Many of us will miss him in the days ahead."
