T. Norman Of Winnfield Dies At Age Of 92 Years Funeral services for W. T. Norman, who died in a local hospital Monday following a short illness, were held at the Hixon Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 1961, with Dr. W. L. Holcomb, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and Rev. R. W. Gage, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under direction of Hixson. Acting as pallbearers were directors and officers of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of which Mr. Norman was a charter member of the Board of Directors. They were Joe Mitchell, Casimir D. Moss, Lee Grigsby, Hasson Morris, Lee Grigsby, Hasson Morris, Ovey Trahan, Houston Gates, Cas B. Moss, Benny Smith, and Harley Bozeman. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Leonard Allen Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Norman came to Winn Parish in 1896 as a teacher in the school at Atlanta. He was a native of Bossier Parish. The next year he came to Winnfield as principal of the school. In 1898, he taught school in Winnfield with other instructors, who included P. K. Abel, Judge Cas Moss, and Mrs. Belle Mosley. They had about 75 students and taught in the Methodist Church building. Mr. Norman later served four years as Parish Superintendent of Schools, a number of years as Postmaster of Winnfield, and two terms as Representative to the State Legislature from Winn. He had previously been principal of schools in Bossier and East Baton Rouge Parishes. Throughout his lifetime he was engaged in religious and civic activities in the community and for many years was Sunday School Superintendent at the First Baptist Church. Mr. Norman's wife, the former Miss Mattie Allen of Bossier Parish, preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alliene N. Hoffman, Winnfield; one son, Perry A. Norman, Dallas, Texas; one grandson, Allen Norman, Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Leila Sandidge, Haughton, La., and Mrs. J. E. Bundy, Benton, La. Among the out of town relatives and friends attending the last rites for Mr. Norman were: Perry A. Norman, Dallas; Perry A. Norman, Jr., Lubbock, Texas; Mrs. C. D. Sandidge, Mrs. Francis Frazer, and Mrs. Ruth McGill, all of Haughton; Miss Faye Norman, Mrs. John W. Tenet, Allen F. Wingate, all of Shreveport; Mrs. J. E. Sexton, and Mr. and Ms. J. C. Norman, Minden; Mrs. E. R. Bumgardner, Homer; John H. Allen, Mrs. Eleanor Gleason and Mrs. H. D. McKellar, Plain Dealing, La.; Miss Loma Knighten; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Mixon, Atlanta; Mr. G. H. Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot Wardlaw, Calvin; Mr. and Mrs. J. Charles Long, Pineville; Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Corbitt, Gilbert; and Mrs. J. O. Lincecum, Dodson.
