T. Norman Funeral Services Are Held Monday Mrs. Mattie Allen Norman, 87, wife of former Winn educator and public official W. T. Norman, died Friday following a long illness. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 31, at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. W. L. Holcomb, pastor of First Baptist Church, and Rev. Robert W. Gage, pastor of Winnfield Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Mrs. Norman was the daughter of J. G. Allen and Emily Spurlin Allen, pioneer settlers of Bossier Parish from Georgia, and was the last surviving member of the Plain Dealing Baptist Church. In 1897, she was married to W. T. Norman and for the past 62 years has lived in Winnfield. Her husband, who survives, for many years was a teacher, principal, and superintendent of education in Winn Parish. He was also State Representative from Winn Parish from 1912-1920 ant Winnfield postmaster from 1926-1933. In addition to her husband Mrs. Norman is survived by a son, Perry A. Norman of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Alliene Hoffman of Winnfield; one grandson, Perry Allen Norman, Jr., and a sister, Mrs. Eugenia Lee of Tampa, Fla. Pallbearers were E. H. Farr, W. D. Walker, Cas B. Moss, Joe W. Mitchell, Hasson Morris, and Lee J. Grigsby. Attending the funeral from out of town included: Mrs. Herbert Mixon, Lambert Mixon, of Atlanta; Miss Loma Knighten and Mrs. Doris K. Baxter of Lafayette; Mrs. J. E. Murry, Mrs. R. A. Stacey, Jr., of Shreveport; Ms. Eleanor Gleason, Mrs. Myrtice A. McKellar, John H. Allen, of Plain Dealing; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Lea of Bossier City, Theodore R. Allen of Cameron, Texas; Miss Faye Norman of Shreveport; Mrs. Francis Frazier, Mrs. Tura E. Reed, Mrs. Lelia Sandidge of Haughton; J. D. Lee, Mrs. Eugenia Lee of Tampa, Fla.; and Mrs. Aubrey Corbitt of Winnsboro. Out of town visitors in the Norman-Hoffman home over the weekend included: Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Dickerson of Monroe; Miss Marion Melton of Alexandria; Rev. Merle Averett of Richton, Miss.; Mrs. E. R. Bumgardner, Mrs. J. E. Sexton, and Mr. and Mrs. Justin Norman of Minden.
