Roy Newsom Held Here Feb. 6 Funeral services for J. Roy Newsom, 57, former resident of Winnfield, who died of a heart attack at his home in Bossier City on Wednesday night, February 4, were held at the First Methodist Church in Winnfield at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, February 6, with Rev. Alwin Stokes and Rev. Fred S. Flurry officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Mr. Newsom, son of the late Samuel R. Mary Wallace Newsom of Winn Parish, was born at Hickory Valley near Sikes on August 7, 1890. He married Miss Zoe Machen, daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. M. F. Machen of Winnfield. For several years he was an employee of Milam's Store in this city. At the time of his death Mr. Newsom was a representative of the Johns-Manville Roofing Company. He had made his home in Bossier City for the past several years. He is survived by his widow and four brothers. They are W. W. Newsom of Decatur, Mississippi; C. M. Newsom of Sikes; Troy L. Newsom of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, many of whom attended the funeral services.
