All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: March 17, 1960 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Last Rites for Mrs. Julia Long Nugent At Liberty Chapel Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Long Nugent, 97, who died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in an Alexandria hospital, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Alexandria. Burial followed services in the Liberty Chapel Cemetery at Williana, with Dr. Guy Hicks and Rev, James Jones officiating. Mrs. Nugent was the last of the nation's oldest set of twins and an aunt of two Louisiana governors, Earl Long and the late Huey Long, and the late Congressman George S. Long. She was also the mother of the late Albert Nugent of Winnfield. Her twin sister, Mrs. Olive Wright Long, of Winnfield, died on Jan. 10, this year. Mrs. Nugent was the daughter of John and Mary Wingate Long who came to Winn Parish from Mississippi before the Civil War. The twins were born in Louisiana and were the last survivors of 13 children. Mrs. Nugent was born near Winnfield but had made her home in Alexandria for many years. Survivors include five children, Jesse M. Nugent of Baton Rouge, O. H. Nugent and Mrs. M. T. Cappel, Sr., of Alexandria and Mrs. Dennis Bocock (Babcock?) and Mrs. Lula Higdon of Winnfield; 15 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
