Funeral services for Charles Odis Nugent, 67, were held Sunday, May 24, at 4 p.m. in Hixson Funeral Home chapel in Alexandria. Rev. William Mayo officiated at the services, with burial following at the Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Pineville. Mr. Nugent had been ill for some time with arthritis, but his condition did not become critical until early Saturday morning when he suffered a stroke and passed away shortly after, at 8:30 at his home. He was a former Winn Parish citizen, where he was a well known farmer and stock man of the Packton community, where he reared his family. He had moved to Alexandria in recent years where he and his wife made their home on the Lee Street extension. He was a member of the Methodist church and attended services regularly until a few weeks before his death, when his health prevented him from leaving his home. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Etta Stevens Nugent, and eight children, and 11 brothers and sisters. Three of the children live in Winnfield with their families. They are Siess, Jewel, and Henry Nugent. Everett, Bill and a daughter, Mrs. Bertie Deville reside in Pineville. Ben, and another daughter, Miss Bonnie Nugent, make their home in Shreveport.
