A. Nugent, 39, Shoots Self Twice in Head With Pistol Luther Nugent, 39, of Georgetown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Nugent of Ward Nine, Winn Parish, shot and killed himself late Wednesday afternoon in a saloon in Georgetown, according to Dr. I. W. Sanford, Grant Parish Coroner, who declared his death "suicide." The cause of the shooting was attributed to "family trouble" by Grant Parish officers who conducted an investigation. Nugent and his wife had been separated for several months, they said, and he had attempted a reconciliation Tuesday night, but failed. Nugent, according to the officers, entered the Georgetown saloon early Wednesday and stayed until the shooting occurred in the afternoon. "Shorty" Davis, bartender, said Nugent asked to see his gun "to look it over." When Davis handed the .38 caliber pistol to Nugent, the latter fired two shots into his head, dying in about two hours. He was not removed from the scene until after death. He is survived by his widow; three children, Alton, Aline, and Marie Nugent; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Nugent, Winn Parish; five sisters, Mrs. Lillian Scroggs, Mrs. Stella Strickland, Mrs. Ella Jutzi, Mrs. Blanche French, and Mrs. Grace Rambo of Rochelle, one brother, David Nugent, Rochelle. The body was prepared for burial in Alexandria, La. Funeral services were held at the family residence near Georgetown at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Interment was made in the Georgetown Cemetery.
