R. L. Oakes, Atlanta Merchant, Succumbs to Long Illness Mon.

R. L. Oakes, 85 years old and resident of Winn Parish for the past forty three
years, died at his home in Atlanta Monday, April 30th, following a long
illness.

Mr. Oakes was a native of Georgia and after moving to Atlanta engaged in the
merchantile business in which he continued until his death.

He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at Mars Hill Tuesday conducted by Rev. Balford
Foster.

The deceased is survived by his widow, and four children, Tom Oakes,
Haynesvllle, George Oakes, Shreveport, Mrs. B. B. Lovell, Pollock, and Mrs. J.
W. Lang, Atlanta.
