Held Important Offices Sheriff James Jefferson O'Quin, of Grant Parish, aged 56 years, 6 months, and 9 days, died at his home in Colfax Wednesday night, December 26, 1928, at 10:45 o'clock. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock, interment made in the Colfax Cemetery, following services at the family residence. The officers of Colfax Lodge No. 259, F. & A. M., had charge of the funeral services. Sheriff O'Quinn is known all over the State of Louisiana, having been in the public eye for many years. He served as clerk of court of Grant Parish from 1900 to 1920, was assessor from 1921 to 1923, and sherff from June 1923 to the day of his death. He was born in Angelina County, near Lufkin, Texas. He married Miss Lydia Taquino and she survives him, together with nine children, who are as follows: J. J. O'Quin, Jr., of Colfax; E. B. O'Quin of the U. S. Navy, Hampton Roads, Va.; Wilbur L. and Gordon David O'Quin, of Colfax; Misses Martina, Hermoine, Aetna Mae, Eloise, and Evelyn O'Quin, of Colfax. Deceases is survived by his mother, Mrs. Margaret O'Quin of Lufkin, Texas, and one sister, Mrs. Mamie Singleton, of Lufkin.
