All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: March 13, 1947 Winn Parish Enterprise Husband of Winn Native Dies In Wingate, Indiana John Oxley, age 34, of Wingate, Indiana, husband of the former Eugenia Shumake of Winn Parish, died Tuesday, March 4, of asphyxiation. His body was found in his car parked at a restaurant and bus stop and it was presumed he fell asleep in his car with the heater running. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Shumake, of Rt. 1, Winnfield, Mrs. Oxley's parents, left for Wingate immediately upon receiving the message of their son-in-law's death. They returned to their home this week. Mrs. Oxley's sister, Miss Theresa Shumake, of Shreveport, who was visiting her sister at the time of the tragedy, will stay in Wingate for several more weeks. Funeral services were held for Mr. Oxley at 2:30 p.m. March 6 in the Methodist Church at Wingate. Military rites were also held by Wingate Post 174 of the American Legion. Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery at Wingate. Mr. Oxley is survived by his wife and small son, John Wayne Oxley, who was born last October; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Oxley of Wingate, and a sister, Mrs. Fred Ratcliff of Crawfordville.
