Ed Palmer Killed By Lightning At Quarry Wednesday Morning E. B. Barton, Jr., is Injured By Bolt As Pair Start To Work Ed Palmer, 25, employee of the Solvay Process Company here, was killed instantly at 6:30 Wednesday morning by a bolt of lightning that also injured his companion, E. B. Barton, Jr. as the two were getting ready to report for work. Both were truck drivers at the quarry. This section had experienced one of the heaviest rains in its history that started late Tuesday afternoon and continued all Tuesday night. Electrical storms accompanied the rains throughout the night and finally subsided at around eight o'clock Wednesday morning. Palmer and Barton had just arrived at the quarry and had been talking to John Royal and Mr. Terry, also employees of the plant and were going toward their trucks when the bolt struck them. When Mr. Royal and Mr. Terry reached the men, Mr. Palmer was dead. Mr. Barton was reported to be suffering from burns and shock. He was carried to his home near Atlanta. Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife, the former Rolene Bell of Atlanta and one child. His remains were conveyed to the home of his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ace Bell, of Atlanta, from where funeral services were conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. Palmer was a native of Caddo parish and came to this parish as a CCC enrollee, later marrying Miss Bell.
