S. Highway 84 East was the scene of an accident which took the life of 69 year old Mrs. Dottie Ophelia Parker, Saturday evening. Mrs. Parker was the sixth fatality on Highway 84 this year, the second on 84 East, however; the other four died on Highway 84 West. Since the accident occurred within the city limits, it is not included in Highway 84 statistics. According to investigating officials, Mrs. Parker was an occupant in a car driven by one of her daughters, Mrs. Laverne Boyette. The 19_4 Ford station wagon apparently went out of control as they rounded a curve in front of the Parkway Drive-In traveling west from Joyce. Time of the accident was 4:10 p.m. The station wagon hit a Ford truck on which a bulldozer was mounted, which was parked four feet off the road with parking lights on. The automobile reportedly hit the lowboy on which the bulldozer was mounted, moving the truck several feet at the impact. Mrs. Parker was pinned in the wreckage. She was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital. The other occupants of the car, Mrs. Cleo Parker, 23, wife of Jimmy Parker of Winnfield and daughter in law of the victim, and Mrs. Boyette were thrown out of the car on the highway. Mrs. Cleo Parker is listed in critical condition at Baptist Hospital in Alexandria. Mrs. Boyette was not listed in serious condition in Winnfield General Hospital. Mrs. Dottie Parker, who was living at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home at the time of her death, was a former resident of the Sikes community. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. December 18 in the United Pentecostal Church of Olla. Rev. Elmer Douglas officiated. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Survivors are two sons, Ellis C. Parker of Baton Rouge and James Parker of Winnfield; three daughters, Mrs. Ollie Mae Mixon of California, Mrs. Laverne Boyette of Winnfield, and Mrs. Dottie O. Douglas of Olla; three brothers, T. F. Adams, W. C. Adams, and J. E. Adams, all of Sikes; a sister, Mrs. Clara Jordan of Winnfield; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
