All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 24, 1954 Winn Parish Enterprise Mrs. Nancy Parker Of Sikes Is Fatally Injured In Wreck Wednesday Morning Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Parker, widow of the late Dr. J. B. Parker of Sikes, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident Wednesday morning, were held today, Thursday, at 3 o'clock at the Sikes Baptist Church, followed by interment in the Sikes Cemetery. W. S. Emmons, lifelong friend of the family and prominent in civic and religious affairs of the Sikes area, conducted the services. The fatal accident occurred on the Winnfield-Hudson highway Wednesday morning about 8:30 o'clock when Mrs. Bonnie Hutchinson of Dodson, driver of the car, accompanied by Mrs. Parker, were coming to Winnfield. Investigation by Trooper Sanford Jordan revealed that according to witnesses, Mrs. Hutchinson drove off the pavement onto the shoulder and when she attempted to steer back on the road, lost control of the car, which like a flash, crossed the highway, spanned a ditch and rammed into a pine tree. The car was completely demolished, according to Trooper Jordan. Mrs. Parke sustained internal chest and head injuries and deep lacerations of the left arm, while Mrs. Hutchinson, pinned underneath the car, suffered painful bruises and minor lacerations but no broken bones. Both women were rushed to local hospitals where they were x-rayed and treated for their injuries. Mrs. Parker who remained unconscious for several hours, died of the injuries about 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Hutchinson is resting well, according to doctor's report, and while painful her condiction is considered favorable. Surviving Mrs. Parker are six daughters, Mrs. Ruel Emmons, Mrs. Puckett Willis, Miss Nell Parker, of Sikes, Miss Geneva Parker, Shreveport, Mrs. Irma McGlothin, Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Everett Moore, Shreveport; one son, A. Parker, Sikes; four sisters, Mrs. Aldia Gates, Mrs. Mary Gulledge, Mrs. Bird McMurry, Mrs. Esther Miller, all of Sikes; one brother, Chester Erskins, Karnack, Texas. Nephews of the deceased served as pallbearers: Sharon Parker, R. J. Parker, Earl Usery, Theabert McMurry, James Gulledge, Morris Gates.
