Earle Former New York Giant football star Jim Patton, a nephew of Mrs. Cecil Earle of Winnfield, has been killed in a car wreck in Georgia. Patton died December 23 when he tried to pass a car and met another vehicle while traveling on U. S. 78 three miles west of Villa Rica, Ga. He was born September 29, 1933 at Greenville, Miss., played football at Ole Miss and played on two Sugar Bowl teams. He once scored 26 points against Tulane. Patton was drafted in the eighth round in 1955 by the Giants who switched him to defensive back. He played 12 seasons for the Giants, was in six NFL championship games an dfive pro bowls. He made the All-Eastern Conference team five times. His wife is the former Adonis Bridgers. The Pattons had four sons and lived in Belzoni, Miss. Patton was reported enroute to Maryland to see his sister who was critically ill.
