She was a relative of the Dunn and Shirley families of Winnfield and Winn Parish. Following is the news account of Miss Payne's death. She was killed instantly about 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning when her auto crashed head-on into a truck south of Monahans, Texas. According to State Police, Mrs. Payne was traveling north and the truck was going south. The Payne car, according to police, was in the south bound lane at the time of the accident. Mrs. Payne, a resident of Grand Falls, Texas, is survived by her husband, William Payne, of Grand Falls; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Shirley of Monahans, Tex. Relatives attending the funeral of Cassa Faye Payne, who was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Dunn and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shirley, in Monahans, Texas, June 6, from here were: Mrs. Lillie Frederick, Mrs. Bill Shows, Rev. and Mrs. W. C. Grice, Roger Dunn, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dunn; Jake Dunn and Gayle Shirley of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Maurine Johns, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Shirley and Mrs. Jewel Shirley.
