B. Payne Is Buried At New Hope April 27 Mrs. J. B. Payne, Sr., 87, died unexpectedly April 25, 1963 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. J. Strong in West Monroe. A native of Winn Parish, Mrs. Payne was the former Elizabeth Della Gaar, oldest daughter of the late David E. and Amanda Grisham Gaar, pioneer residents of Gaars Mill. She was the widow of the late J. B. Payne, Sr. A son, J. B. Payne, Jr., died April 8th. Mrs. Payne was a member of the Dodson Methodist Church. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 27, at 3 p.m. in the Dodson Methodist Church with the Rev. H. B. Crammer officiating. Assisting were the Revs. Roy Grant, R. H. Staples, and A. H. Johnson. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Pallbearers were grandsons, Robert Payne, Carthal Payne, Jerry Payne, Chester Hemperley, Charles Strong, and Stephen Hamm. Survivors are one son, Rev. J. O. Payne of Winnfield; four daughters, Mrs. Raymond Colvin of Ruston, Mrs. L. B. Hemperley of Pineville, Mrs. C. J. Strong and Mrs. Earl Hamm, both of West Monroe; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Sanders of Ruston; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.
