Payne, 90, Succumbs; Rites Saturday Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Bell Payne, 90, of Winnfield, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas W. Cox officiating. Mrs. Payne died Friday, November 6, 1970 at 3 p.m. in Winnfield General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Widow of the late George Payne, Mrs. Payne was a native of Simsboro, a member of First Baptist Church and a retired school teacher having taught in the Winn Parish school system for approximately 30 years. Burial was in the Winnfield City Cemetery. Survivors include one brother, Dr. Justin E. Bell of Houston, Texas; three nieces, Mrs. Monic Bell, Washington, D. C., Mrs. C. C. Pate of Cotton Valley, Mrs. J. C. Duke of Goodpine; one granddaughter. Pallbearers were G. P. Long, D. L. Hoffman, Harper Terrill, W. L. Sowers, Hampton DeLoach, and Arnet Garriss.
