L. Payne, 84, Pioneer Minister, Dies Friday, July 25 Rev. B. L. Payne, 84 years old, once of the pioneer ministers of this section died Friday, July 25th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. L. White, who lives on Route 2. Rev. Payne was born November 11, 1846 in the Panhandle of Texas and early in life became a minister of the Baptist faith. He came to Louisiana after reaching manhood and has preached the gospel in almost every community in the northeast part of the state. He was a man of strong convictions and fearless in his work as a minister. Many of the older citizens of this section have heard him preach many times. He was a member of the Columbia Lodge No. 164, F. & A. M. Which organization held services at his funeral on Saturday, July 26, at one o'clock with Rev. J. D. Kitchingham, pastor of Columbia Baptist Church, conducting the services, and he was buried in the Columbia Cemetery. Surviving Rev. Payne are his aged widow, Mrs. B. L. Payne, and two daughters, Mrs. G. L. White and Mrs. S. H. Curry.
