Funeral Services For Lansing Payne Held On August 19

Funeral services for Lansing B. Payne, 40, were held from the family residence
on Maple Street at 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, with the Rev. Alwin Stokes
officiating.  Burial was in Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson
Brothers Funeral Home.

Mr. Payne passed away at his home here on Monday, August 18, after an illness
of several years.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Vera George Payne; one daughter, Elizabeth;
his mother, Mrs. G. A. Payne; and one sister, Miss Gertrude Payne, all of
Winnfield.

Pallbearers were Ramon Bowen, Houston Gates, W. D. Walker, Bonner Corder, D.
L. Hoffman, and G. P. Long, Jr.

Mr. Payne was born in Winnfield on October 7, 1906.  At an early age he joined
the Baptist Church.  He taught school for a number of years and was later
connected with the Gulf Oil Company.  For a short time he was an employee of
Schlumberger Well Surveying Corporation in Winnfield, but had retired some
time ago because of ill health.
