Payne, 86, Dies At Daughter's Home February 12 At the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Melinda Durham, in Selma, __ Tuesday, February 12, 1929 at __ o'clock p.m., Mrs. Jonathan K. Payne, aged 86 years, widow of the late Rev. Jonathan K. Payne, who preceded her in death some twenty- ____ years, and who at one time was a prominent Baptist minister of Grant and Winn Parishes. Mrs. Payne was the mother of one of the most prominent families in Central Louisiana. She was widely known, and though lingering ___ the door of death for the past several weeks, her untimely demise came as a shock to her many surviving relatives and large host of friends, who now mourn her departure. The deceased was the mother of thirteen children, eleven of whom survive her. She leaves six sons, and ____ daughters, they being as follows: Dr. D. I. Payne, of Pineville _______ Alexandria; O. U. Payne of __eville; Jackson Payne of New Mexico; Clem Payne of Lamourie; ________ Payne of Pollock; Jesse Payne of Urania; Mrs. (Dr.) G. W. Durham of Winnsboro, La.; Mrs. S. E. Richardson of Shreveport; Mrs. Melinda Durham, of Selma; Mrs. Ellis Wallace of Verda, La., and Mrs. __ily Bagwell, of DeRidder, La.. She also leaves between thirty and forty grandchildren, among them ___ Clyde G. Durham, Rapides Parish treasurer; S. E. Richardson, principal of Central Grammar School, Alexandria, and numerous others. She is also survived by approximately ten great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock p.m. today at Mount Zion Baptist Church, near Montgomery, La., by the Rev. J. P. Durham, Baptist minister of Alexandria. The funeral procession left Selma at 10 a.m. Interment was made in the Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers, undertakers, of Alexandria.
