Rites Wednesday For Prominent Dodson Citizen

Waymon B. Payne, 54 year old Dodson sawmill operator, died Monday night in a
Jonesboro hospital of a heart condition.  Funeral services are to be held
Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Dodson Methodist Church with burial to follow in
New Hope Cemetery near Gaars Mill.

Mr. Payne was a native of the Hudson Community in Winn Parish, where he was
born December 14, 1898.  He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Payne,
Sr., of Ruston, who survive him.

He had been engaged in the sawmill and timber business in this parish for
several years, at one time operating the Payne Sawmill in Dodson.  At the time
of his death he was operating a mill at Chatham on contract with Tremont
Lumber Company.

Mr. Payne had been in failing health for several months and was hospitalized
in Robinson Clinic in Jonesboro about a week ago.

Officiating at the funeral tomorrow will be Rev. Grafton Shaw, pastor of the
Dodson Methodist Church, assited by Rev. Ray Prager, pastor of the Dodson
Baptist Church, and Sister B. L. of the Dodson Assembly of God Church.  Burial
arrangements are under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Willie Smitherman Payne, of Dodson; parents, Mr.
and Mrs. J. B. Payne, Sr., of Ruston; one daughter, Mrs. Paul Weinhold of Los
Angeles, Calif.; two sons, Carthal B. Payne of Dodson and Robert Payne of
the U. S. Army in France; two brothers, Rev. J. O. Payne of Montgomery and J.
B. Payne, Jr., of DeRidder; four sisters, Mrs. Raymond Colvin of Ruston,
Mrs. C. J. Strong of Jackson, Miss., Mrs. Earl Hamm of West Monroe, and Mrs.
L. B. Hemperley of Winnfield; three grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews, and a host of other friends and relatives.

Pallbearers will be Grover Jeter, J. L. Mathes, Clayton Norred, Ellis
Williams, Jr., J. E. Williams, Sr., and R. G. Simpkins.
