All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: July 7, 1939 Winnfield News-American Automobile Wreck Proves Fatal To Mother, Daughter Colfax Negro Is Killed In Crash On Last Thursday Mrs. Savannah Pender, age 65, of Montgomery, and her daughter, Mrs. Belle Pender Arnon, age 33, of Natchitoches, died on Thursday, June 29, as a result of an automobile accident at Montgomery. The accident occurred when an automobile driven by Chester Gonzac, negro of Colfax, collided with the Pender car at the intersection of the Shreveport and Winnfield highways at Colfax. Gonzac was killed in the wreck. C. C. Pender and Ora Jowers, occupants of the other automobile, were not seriously injured. Funeral services for Mrs. Pender and Mrs. Arnon were held at Mt. Zion Sunday with Rev. J. A. Jones and Rev. Adams officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
