Viet Nam A Marine from Dodson was killed in action in Viet Nam, April 26, marking Winn Parish's second war victim. Cpl. Perry Lee Peoples, a 1962 graduate of Pinecrest High School in Winnfield, was killed by a mine at Quang Dien, 75 miles north of Da Nang along the north central coastal plains. Peoples was the oldest of nine children of Neomi Peoples, of Dodson. Before joining the Marine Corps, he served two years in the Army. He was 23 years old and had arrived in Viet Nam last Christmas Day. He was in the 3rd Marine Division's 2nd Battalion H Company and while the war department has not yet officially said, it was believed that Peoples was killed with six other Marines last week during heavy fighting. A telegram from the War Department said only that he died of multiple fragmentation wounds from a hostile mine during operations in the vicinity of Quang Dien on April 26. No details on funeral arrangements were available at press time.
