J. Perkins, who died suddenly Friday afternoon from a heart attack, were held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Durham, 445 Prospect Avenue, Shreveport, Saturday morning. The Rev. R. T. Ware, pastor of the Park Avenue Methodist Church, and Dr. R. E. Goodrich, pastor of the First Methodist Church, had charge of the services. Following the services, the funeral cortege left Shreveport for Winnfield, where burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Wellman Undertaking Company Saturday afternoon. The many floral tributes expressed the deep sympathy and love of friends and relatives. Active pallbearers were: C. E. Tannehill, Warren Curry, Charlie Smith, Eric Smith, Ole Matheson, Judge R. W. Oglesby and A. R. McDonald of Winnfield. Honorary pallbearers were: Dr. L. H. Pirkle, Dr. E. M. White, Hal M. Gatti, H. S. Roach, J. C. DeGeneres, P. C. Corbett, B. R. Bledsoe and E. E. Roemer, of Shreveport, and Dr. Oscar Dowling of New Orleans. Out of town friends and relatives attending the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. L. H. Pirkle, Dr. and Mrs. E. M. White and family, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Love and family, Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Dunn and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mountz, Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Sikes and children, Mr. and Mrs. Hezzie Porter and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Durham and family, Mrs. Ella Durham and daughter, Miss Winifred Pirkle, Hal M. Gattie, H. S. Roach, J. C. DeGeneres, P. C. Corbett, B. B. Bledsoe, and C. E. Roemer of Shreveport; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hilliard and son, Victoria, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. J. Peavy and son, El Dorado, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. George Erskin and granddaughter, of Sikes; O. K. Allen, Baton Rouge; Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Stamper, Natchitoches; Lafayette Robinson, DeRidder; Kendrick Hartsfield, student, Louisiana College, and Miss Linnie Dunn, student, State Normal. Surviving relatives are the widow, his mother, Mrs. H. J. Perkins of Winnfield; one son, W. J. Perkins, Jr.; four sisters, Mrs. J. P. Durham of Shreveport; Mrs. W. W. Allen and Mrs. W. O. Averett, of Winnfield, and Mrs. J. Peavy, of El Dorado, Ark. Mr. Perkins had a mild attack of heart trouble a week before his death, but his condition was not considered serious and he did not take his bed. He suffered a second attack while in the office of Henry S. Roach at Winson Street, Shreveport, Friday. Mr. Perkins suffered his third heart attack while in a car driven by C. E. Roemer, A Shreveport dairyman, who was carrying him from a physician's office back to Mr. Roach's office. He was rushed to the Tri-State Sanitarium, but died in the automobile before reaching the institution. Mr. Perkins owned one of the largest dairies serving Shreveport, and had gained a wide reputation in this industry throughout the state. He was president of the Natural Raw Milk Association of Shreveport and formerly president of the Louisiana Safe Milk Association. He had recently returned from New Orleans, where he had gone in the interest of the former association. Mr. Perkins, who was 44 years old, was the son of the late H. J. Perkins, pioneer citizen of Winnfield, and Mrs. Perkins. He attended college at Springfield College, Mo. He left Winnfield when he was a young man for Shreveport. He entered the dairy business twenty years ago, beginning with a small establishment on Caddo Lake. Later with the rapid growth of his business the established a dairy on the Mansfield road, which is one of the most up-to-date serving that city.
