Last Rites Held For Dr. J. I. Peters in Shreveport

Funeral services for Dr. James I. Peters, 66, native of Winnfield, who died at
his home at 3001 Fairfield Avenue, Shreveport, Tuesday morning, after a short
illness, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday at his home.

The Rev. Frank Walters officiated, with burial at Forest Park Cemetery.

A native of Winnfield, he was the son of the pioneer families of Winn Parish,
the late Dr. John J. Peters and Mrs Minerva Stacy Peters.  He had recently
returned to Shreveport from Charlotte, N.C., where he had been director of the
Red Cross blood center.  He had been chosen to lead the blood center in
Shreveport.

Dr. Peters, a graduate of the University of Texas and Tulane University,
served as a major in World War I.  He was a member of the American Legion, the
Masonic order, the American and Shreveport Camellia societies, the American
and Louisiana Iris societies, American Medical Association, and the Wichita
Falls, Texas Medical Society.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Stella Fonville Peters; one son, Dr. James
I. Peters, Boston, Mass., two daughters, Miss Minerva Peters, Memphis, Tenn.,
and Mrs. J. T. Smith, Meridian, Miss.; one brother, John Peters, Winnfield;
five sisters, Mrs. A. B. Cox and Mrs. Ed Simonton, both of Shreveport, Mrs. J.
D. Holmes, Sr., Winnfield, Mrs. H. C. Collier, Baton Rouge, and Mrs. E. A.
Weeks, Sr., Winnfield, and a nephew, Ward Peters, Shreveport.

Active pallbearers were David Billeiter, Ray Trusty, Ward Peters, A. B. Cox,
Jr., Ed Mathews, John Peters, Jr., Purcell Wallace, and Chris Stewart.
