Peters, Parish Coroner, Dies Monday Prominent Physician is Stricken While Pumping Automobile Tire and Succumbs Immediately Dr. J. J. Peters, 72 years old, coroner of Winn Parish, was stricken with heart failure while pumping up a tire on his automobile on returning from the funeral of W. M. Branch at the Harmony Grove Cemetery near Gaars Mill Monday about noon and succumbed immediately. John W. Teddlie was the only person with the doctor when the tragedy occurred. The body was moved to the residence of Will Dark, Police Jury member, to await the arrival of the hearse from Winnfield. Dr. Peters was a man of remarkable vitality for his age. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and appeared to be in perfect health, until the very moment that he was stricken. He had made no previous complaint of illness, and it is believed that he became overheated from pumping up the tire, as the day was extremely warm. Dr. Peters spent the greater part of his life time in Winn Parish and the many years of his professional work carried him into almost every one of its homes. No citizen of Winn Parish was more widely known to the individuals than was Dr. J. J. Peters, and no single man of Winn Parish has probably been of more service to its people. He was scrupulously careful in his practice. A man of fearless convictions always standing by what he thought was right regardless of whether it placed him with the minority or majority. In accordance with the wish of the deceased only Masonic services were held. He was a member of Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 of Winnfield. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Minerva Stacey Peters, and the following children: (illegible), Dr. J. I. Peters, and Mrs. Harriett Collier of Alexandria, Mrs. W. M. Campbell of New Orleans, Mrs. Josie Matthews, Mrs. E. Simonton, and Mrs. A. B. Cox of Shreveport, Mrs. E. A. Weeks, John J. and Hines H. Peters of Winnfield.
