Peters, 78, Attorney and life long resident of Winn Parish, died of a heart attack at his home on the Calvin Road at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. He was semi-retired from his law practice and was engaged in managing his farm, with the assistance of his two sons, John J., Jr., and Gordon C. Peters, both of Winnfield. Mr. Peters, prominent in law circles in the state, served one term as State Representative from Winn Parish. Funeral services were incomplete, but the remains are at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Winnfield. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Phyllis Cummings Peters; two sons of Winnfield; one daughter, Mrs. Katherine Payne, Midland, Texas; one grandson, John Payne; one brother, Hynes Peters, Winnfield; three sisters, Mrs. A. B. Cox and Mrs. Edmond Simonton, Shreveport; and Mrs. H. C. Collier, Baton Rouge.
