H. Peters of Winnfield Dies; Final Rites Dec. 6 Mrs. W. H. Peters, a retired school teacher of Winnfield, died in a Winnfield hospital Saturday, December 5 at 8 p.m. Funeral services were conducted Monday at 10 a.m. at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. W. L. Holcomb, the Rev. C. C. Martin, and Rev. W. R. Gage officiating. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Acting as pallbearers were Dr. W. W. Peters, Dr. Ray Jenkins, M. L. Peters, S. B. Peters, J. M. Jenkins, and W. R. James. A native of East Feliciana Parish and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Tabor, Mrs. Peters came here in 1905 as a school teacher and during her career taught under the administration of Superintendents of Education, Judge Cas Moss, J. J. Mixon, A. Leonard Allen, W. T. Norman, and D. E. Sikes. She retired from public schools in 1928 and later taught in the adult education program. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was active in church and civic affairs until her health failed about 15 years ago. Surviving are her husband, W. H. Peters of Winnfield; one sister, Mrs. Jules Vermeersch of Arizona; one nephew and a number of great nieces and nephews.
