All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: October 22, 1959 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Former "Old Time" Local Printer Dies In Shreveport John Leonard "Len" Pinckard, age 75, died of a heart attack at his home in Shreveport, Saturday, Oct. 10, at 9 a.m. Mr. Pinckard, better known as Len, spent his early years in Winnfield, attended school and was employed on the staffs of the early newspapers of Winnfield and Dodson. He began his work with Ben Coates at the age of 14 and worked with Major Strong and Mr. Smiley where he was associated with the late Clay Riser. He went to Shreveport in 1911 and there learned linotype operation and worked with the Shreveport Journal. He worked for the Shreveport Times 35 years until his retirement. He was married to Miss Bessie Barnes of Marshall, Texas, who survives him. He is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. W. A. Brockway of Shreveport and Mrs. Arthur Claggett of Baker, La.; and one grandson, Johnnie Brockway of Shreveport; one brother, Laurie S. Pinckard of Colfax; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Johnson of Montgomery and Mrs. Annie Lee Hayes of Olla; and a number of nephews and nieces.
