Plunkett Dies In Veterans Hospital Sept. 10 Eugene M. Plunkett, 52, a veteran of World War No. 1, died September 10th at 7:45 a.m. in the Veterans Hospital near Alexandria where he had been a patient since January 14, 1942. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Alwin Stokes at the Corinth Baptist Church on September 11. Interment was made in the Corinth Cemetery under the direction of Edmond's Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Roy Waxley, Everett Burke, Odus Long, Lonnie Long, Manuel Long, and Ben Long. Born in Webster Parish, September 9, 1890, Mr. Plunkett came to Winn Parish in 1915. He enlisted in the army on September 18, 1917 at Winnfield and was discharged January 28, 1919 at Camp Pike, Arkansas, with the rank of Corporal. He was in Company A of the 329 Infantry and the 53rd Division. He served most of his time overseas where he participated in several great battles. Mr. Plunkett was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church at the time of his death. He married Miss Pearl Long, the daughter of J. Harrison Long, on July 26, 1919, who survives him, together with one daughter, Mary Cathryne; one grandson, Woody Gene; three brothers, Ollie and Charlie of Castor, and Perry of North Bend, Oregon; and one sister, Mammie Lee of Alberta, La.
