P. McManus, Age 80, Dies At his Home In Verda Interment Held Sunday Afternoon in Mars Hill Cemetery Rev. P. McManus, age 80, pioneer Baptist preacher of the section died at his home in Verda Saturday, August 11th, at 7:30 a.m. Funeral services were held from the Mars Hill Baptist Church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Re. O. L. Hughes, Baptist minister conducted last rites. Burial was made in the Mars Hill Cemetery. Surviving members of the immediate family are five sons, G. P. McManus, S. L. McManus, Gravis McManus and Lane McManus of Atlanta, Louisiana, Route 2 and Vincent McManus of Port Arthur, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Johnston, Mrs. Dink Lovett of New Verda, Mrs. Herd of Epps and Mrs. R. Tarver of Winnfield; two half brothers, R. M. Lang of Atlanta and Monroe Lang of Verda. Rev. McManus came of the sturdy stock that help(ed) to make history in this section during pioneer days. He was a school teacher, a preacher and farmer and in all situations wielded an influence for honest dealings and righteous living. A large number of friends and relatives paid their last tribute of respect by attending the funeral Sunday afternoon.
