"Dick" Porter, 81, of Winnfield, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church here with the Revs. Calvin Phelps, W. R. Gage, and Charles Haley officiating. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mr. Porter died Saturday, March 11, 1978 in a local hospital after a brief illness. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, the Winnfield Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Mason, owner of Dixie Drug Store in Winnfield for the past 53 years and the oldest retail merchant in Winnfield. Survivors include two sons, Howard A. Porter, Jr., of Gray and Gene W. Porter of El Dorado, Ark.; one daughter, Mrs. Elaine Porter Martin of Winnfield; one sister, Mrs. W. W. Craven of Ingleside, Texas; 15 grandchildren, two great- great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Ed Hall, Harmon Porter, Earl Denning, Don Thompson, Buddy Wood, Harper Terrill. Honorary pallbearers were E. J. Buchanan, Cas D. Moss, T. A. Ferrell, Melvin James, and Robert Heard.
