All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: May 22, 1931 Winnfield News-American John Baxter Porter Dies At Age of 82, Pioneer of Parish John Baxter Porter, one of the pioneer citizens of Winn Parish died at his home near Winnfield Monday, May 18th at the age of eighty-two years five months and seven days. He was born in Alabama December 11, 1848 and came to Winn Parish about 65 years ago settling on the site that has been his home since that time. He was the father of eleven children, only one of whom survives him, I. Porter. Mr. Porter was a devout member of the Corinth Baptist Church and was considered a leader in church, civic and social circles of his community. The Rev. J. A. McMurray conducted the funeral services Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock and interment was made in the Corinth Cemetery. He is also survived by his wife by a second marriage who was Miss Annie Smith.
