Pierce Porter, Local Druggist, Succumbs Apr. 22 John Sidney Pierce Porter, Winnfield druggist, and Shreveport area rent control, director during and shortly after World War II, died Sunday, April 22, in a Natchitoches hospital, following a heart attack. Mr. Porter was born and reared several miles east of Winnfield. He was graduated from the Winnfield High School in 1913, and from Tulane University in 1917. Following graduation he owned and operated a drug store in Winnfield for about five years before moving to Monroe where he again went into the drug business. Afterwards, he moved to Shreveport where he worked as district manager of the Home Owners' Loan Corporation. He was later appointed rent control director for the Shreveport District during World War II. Mr. Porter moved to Natchitoches in 1946 where he operated a drug store until 1948. For the past four years he has operated a drug store in Winnfield. A requiem mass was held Monday at the Church of Immaculate Conception, Natchitoches, with Father Henry Beckers, assistant pastor, officiating. Graveside services were held at 12:30 p.m.m Monday at St. Mary's Cemetery in New Roads. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elva Pourchau Porter of Natchitoches; a daughter, Miss Martha Porter, of Natchitoches; his mother, Mrs. Roden Porter of Winnfield; four brothers, H.K. of Houston, A.W. of Angola, J.I. of Winnfield, and George of Winnfield; and four sisters, Mrs. O.O.
