A. Porter, 67, Succumbs; Rites Held Sat. Funeral services for Mrs. Ila Garriss Porter, 67, of Winnfield were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Phelps, Rev. W. R. Gage, and Rev. Charles Haley officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mrs. Porter died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 1972, at a local hospital after a lengthy illness. A native of Winnfield, Mrs. Porter was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Cupp and the late Columbus Oscar Garriss. Mrs. Porter and her husband, Howard A. Porter were the first couple to be married in the old First Baptist Church sanctuary and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary November 30th. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Howard A. Porter, Jr., of Gray and Gene William Porter of El Dorado, Ark.; one daughter, Mrs. Elaine Porter Martin of Winnfield; two brothers, Boyd C. Garriss of Minden and Arnet E. Garriss of Winnfield; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers included Donald E. Thompson, Morris Wood, E. J. Buchanan, J. C. Brooks, Harmon Porter, Earl Denning, Jr., Harper Terrill, and C. D. Moss.
