Porter Succumbs After A Long Illness George Washington Porter, 57, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 1966 in a Winnfield hospital. He was a resident of Ward 2, Winn Parish, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Old Union Baptist Church for many years. He is survived by his wife, Josie Allen Porter; two sons, Gene S. Porter and John T. Porter, both of Winnfield; two daughters, Mary Ann Porter Manuel of Lake Charles, and Janice Porter Sullivan of Winnfield; two brothers, A. W. Porter of Baton Rouge, and J. T. Porter of Winnfield; four sisters, Mrs. O. O. Dickerson of Winnfield, Mrs. J. B. Evans of Monroe, Mrs. M. M. Ashcraft of Minden, and Mrs. J. A. Griffin of Tioga, and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Old Union Baptist church with Reverends John J. Gailey and Ralph Frazier officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Hixson Bros. Funeral Home of Winnfield. Pallbearers were Max Allen, Hezzie Porter, Gabe Frazier, Cortez Porter, Billy Dickerson, and John W. Riley.
