A. Porter, 79, Held At Sardis March 3 Funeral services for James Albert Porter, 79, native and lifelong resident of Winn parish, were held at the Sardis Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, with Rev. W. C. Bounds and Rev. H. J. Mott officiating. Interment was in the Old Cemetery at Sardis under direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. Mr. Porter, who had been in poor health for several years, died at a local hospital about 10 a.m. Friday, March 2. A farmer by profession all of his life, Mr. Porter was well known throughout Winn Parish and elsewhere. He was a lifelong member of Sardis Baptist Church and had taken a very active part in various church and community activities. He also was a member of the Winnfield Masonic Lodge. Surviving are five sons, Edward Porter and Harold Porter of Winnfield, Tillet Porter of Houston, Marion Porter of Baton Rouge, and Aubrey Porter of Lewisville, Ark.; and five daughters, Miss Lena Porter of Winnfield, Miss Lois Porter of Winnfield, Mrs. R. C. Allen of Vinton, La., Mrs. James Mahar of Westlake, and Mrs. W. T. Hayles of Natchez, Miss.; 19 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one brother, Jeff Porter of Tannehill; and one sister, Miss Callie Porter, of Tannehill. Pallbearers were: W. T. Hayles, R. C.
