All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: May 13, 1943 Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites For Mrs. Josephine Perkins Held Wednesday Mrs. Josephine Perkins, 77 years, 6 months, and 12 days of age, died at her home in Winnfield Monday morning at 11:00 o'clock, after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services were held from the Winnfield First Baptist Church, of which she was a member, Wednesday afternoon, May 12, at 3:30 o'clock, with Rev. H. H. McBride, assisted by Rev. H. B. Hysell and Rev. Alwin Stokes, all of Winnfield, in charge. Interment was made beside her husband in the local cemetery. Mrs. Perkins, who is the aunt of Congressman A. Leonard Allen and the late Governor O. K. Allen, was born in Winn Parish on October 28, 1855, the youngest of a family of ten children. She was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish. Her parents were the late William A. and Charity Ann McCarty Erskins. On February 16, 1879 she was married to Henry Jackson Perkins, who preceded her in death on February 6, 1928. To this union were born six children, four of whom are living. The oldest daughter, Martha Ann Nevada Perkins, who married Neal McKaskle, died February 6, 1903, and her only son, William Jackson Perkins, died March 8, 1929 in Shreveport. Pallbearers were Mrs. Perkins' six grandsons, Rev. W. M. Averett, of Farmerville, H. G. Peavy, of Houston, Texas, Harris and Wayne Durham, of Shreveport, Pfc. Jerome W. Allen, of Pineville. Another grandson, W. H. Perkins, is serving the Navy somewhere in the Pacific. The surviving children are Mrs. W. W. Allen, Mrs. Eula Peavy, and Mrs. W. O. Averett, of Winnfield, and Mrs. J. P. Durham of Houma, La. Her brothers are George A. Erskins and Willis A. Erskins, of Sikes. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
