Parker of Sikes, who was killed in action in Germany on Feb. 25, 1945, are now being returned to the United States aboard the U. S. Army transport Barney Kirschbaum, according to an announcement today by the department of the Army. His body is one of 31__ war dead from this area that are being returned from Europe for military reburial services on the transport. It was not reported when T-5 Parker's body will arrive here and funeral arrangements have not yet been made. He was killed in action in Germany while serving as a cook with a field artillery unit of the Ninth Army. A bomb hit the truck in which he was working, killing him instantly. T-5 Parker entered the Army in November, 1942, and went overseas in October, 1944. His widow, Mrs. Venoil Parker and his mother, Mrs. H. W. Parker, reside in Sikes. No. 2 Military Reburial To Be Friday For Leonard Parker Military funeral services for T-5 Leonard A. Parker, who was killed in action in Germany February 25, 1945, will be held at the Friendship Baptist Church near Sikes at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, February 4, with the Rev. H. H. McBride officiating. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. A native of Winn Parish, he was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. He was born April 8, 1919 and was 25 years of age at the time of his death. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Venoil Parker of Sikes, and his mother, Mrs. Ella Parker of Sikes. Also surviving are a host of other relatives and friends.
